<\/p>\nI have been fascinated by the idea that we are already living in the Collaborative Revolution! Some years ago, Steve Jobs said that the information revolution would \u201cempower individuals and democratize everything \u201c. We could not predict things would have moved so fast.<\/p>\n

This is how the world has evolved so far:<\/p>\n
What will the world look like in just a few years? How come changes are\u00a0happening at a speed never seen before? In the blink of an eye we see\u00a0new companies being launched and changing the dynamics of markets,\u00a0countries, and people. Organizations and individuals are working in a\u00a0more collaborative way, sharing more openly their products,\u00a0knowledge, causes, and even customers!<\/p>\n
When we think about successful companies such as Uber, Airbnb and\u00a0other businesses that translate what the collaborative economy is all\u00a0about, we realize that we are living in a new era. With the use of\u00a0technology and digital tools, new ways of doing business are impacting\u00a0everyone at a global scale, and completely changing the way we live.\u00a0They create demand for services we have never thought about before,\u00a0allowing convenience and price advantages to consumers. We quickly\u00a0learn and incorporate these new products\/services into our day-to- day\u00a0lives.<\/p>\n
Expert in the field, Rachel Botsman talks about collaborative\u00a0consumption as \u201cthe\u00a0reinvention of traditional market behaviors –\u00a0renting, lending, swapping, sharing, bartering, gifting – through\u00a0technology, taking place in ways and on a scale not possible before the\u00a0Internet. That includes product service systems, collaborative lifestyles\u00a0and redistribution markets that enable people to pay to access and\u00a0share goods and services versus needing to own them outright.\u201d<\/p>\n
To me, the idea of Collaborative Revolution not only relates to the\u00a0collaborative economy or consumption previously mentioned here. It is\u00a0also applied to other fields that share the same core value \u2013 two or more\u00a0people working together to achieve a goal or a purpose. They could be\u00a0collaborative cultures, teams, leaders, organizations, work, learning,\u00a0society, etc.<\/p>\n
Another important point in this discussion is that, in most fields today,\u00a0you are no longer recognized by the information or knowledge that\u00a0you have! What matters the most is how you share that knowledge\u00a0with the rest of the world, and if you can work in a collaborative way\u00a0with other organizations and individuals to drive innovation, create\u00a0market demand, and attract people\u2019s interests!<\/p>\n
A company or a person\u2019s reputation are also very critical in this\u00a0context, and will be built based on behaviors that are observed \u201clive\u201c\u00a0and virtually. Online reviews, social media interactions and other digital\u00a0tools bring to the world – at a global scale, in just a few seconds – what\u00a0people think and feel about a product, service or person.<\/p>\n
From an organization\u2019s perspective, in this new era conventional\u00a0hierarchical models won\u2019t work, and leadership now has more to do\u00a0with your ability to:<\/p>\n

We have become used to embracing the changes\u00a0that will make our lives easier and better. Information, products,services, knowledge, culture \u2013 they are all within our reach – regardless\u00a0of who you are, where you live, or which group you belong to. So what does it all mean to organizations and individuals that are still\u00a0working under rigid structures, who don\u2019t value collaboration, who\u00a0have the traditional leadership mindset, and are not yet mobile or\u00a0interconnected?
